Sport

Sport is strongly embedded in our culture, and it holds immense importance in Knockbeg College. It offers numerous benefits to our students. Engaging in sports not only promotes physical fitness but also instills values like discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. Moreover, sport foster camaraderie and create a sense of belonging among students, as they work together towards a common goal.

Our four main extracurricular sports are:

  • Gaelic Football

  • Hurling

  • Basketball

  • Athletics

Students have also represented us in:

  • Golf

  • Rowing

Each year we consistently prepare for, and perform at, a very high level, and have experienced a huge degree success as a result. This year alone, our Senior Footballers won the South Leinster A League and the Carlow Schools League, while the 1st year footballers won the Laois Schools blitz. Seven of our Senior players received a SETU Carlow Schools All Stars award in hurling and football. In basketball, our senior team reached the All Ireland A semi final in the Cup competition, earning them bronze medals for their efforts. Our athletes have brought home medals in both cross country and track and field at Laois, South Leinster and Leinster events. Many of our students represent their respective counties, with some progressing to provincial and international level to represent Ireland.
