Pandemic H1N1 2009 SWINE FLU
The following steps have been taken to combat the swine flu threat. We are asking students and their families to take every step possible to reduce the threat and to help us keep swine flu out of the school.
STEPS TAKEN
- Hygienic hand gel dispensers have been installed in each room. Disposable tissues are also available in each room.
- Hand gel to be used in conjunction with the hand dryers is available in the toilets.
- Desk surfaces in each classroom and the studyhall as well as the door handles will be wiped with an appropriate disinfectant cloth.
- Notices relating to the flu and advising students to catch it, bin and kill it are on display around the school.
- Bins will be emptied every day or every second day as appropriate.
- Each classroom has been equipped with disposable tissues and disinfectant wipes.
We expect students to do the following:
1. Always have a supply of tissues with you.
2. Always use a tissue or cover your nose and mouth area when sneezing or coughing.
3. Immediately put the used tissue in the classroom or corridor bin.
4. Wash your hands or use the handgel in the rooms after sneezing or coughing.
5. Always wash your hands after using the toilet or prior to eating.
6. Never use anyone else's class materials.
Parents: If your son shows any of the symptons of swine flu please keep him at home. If he appears to have these symptons in school you will be contacted immediately and he will be kept in isolation until you can collect him.
Symptoms "The symptoms are like those of normal seasonal flu and include: fever that begins very suddenly, severe tiredness, a cough, a sore throat, aches and pains, a runny nose, and headache. Some people have vomiting and diarrhoea. While it is usually mild some people may develop complications such as pneumonia." (HSE Information Leaflet 2009)
