Our Knockbeg Athletes enjoyed another successful day last Thursday in round 2 of the Three Counties League in Newbridge College. Our Minor team was very successful with Conal Bergin flying home in 3rd place, Matthew Farrell 10th, Rory Gruffarty 13th and fourth man home in 31st place, Josh Drea Bienko. Great running from all of our new athletes including Jack Byrne, Adam Dalton, Tadhg Ronan, Cody Cunningham, Ben Slattery, Rory Scull, Josh Gallagher and Simon George.
The Junior lads were very competitive with six Knockbeg runners in the top twenty. Oisin Hooney, with a strong performance finished first with Daire Kealy hot on his heals over the last 200m coming in second. Lee Byrne, following a very strong first lap finished in the top twenty as did Matthew Buggy, Jack Murphy and Colin Kelly. Other notable performances came from Oisin Doyle, Karl O’Hara, Jack Dunne, Jamie Conway, Alex Kenny and John Gilchrist. This great racing now leaves the junior lads in a very strong position as we head towards the final round of relays in November.
Our Intermediate runners, T.J. Burke, Gavin Ivory, David McDonald, John Farrell and Cormac O’Brien put in strong performances with a challenging race of 3 laps. T.J came home in 10th position, Cormac 15th, Gavin 38th and David 51st. Finally our senior lads, Cialan Mulhall, Kacper Podsiadiowicz, Declan Roberts and George Roberts finished off the second round with another three laps. A very competitive race saw Cialan, with a very strong finish, coming home in 10th, Declan 12th, Kacper 29th and George 38th. All of our lads are looking forward to finishing the three counties league at the relays in November where we hope to bring home some trophies. Well done lads!
