During the first term we had large number of athletes out training during long lunches and after school with our main focus on the 3 counties League. Knockbeg finished the 3 Counties League with two trophies and plenty of medals.
The minor boys started the day in the best possible way, with strong runs from Oisin Hooney, Darragh Kealey, Jack Murphy and Matthew Buggy the team secured the title. This is the first time in 6 years Knockbeg has won the Minor title. The C team finished 3rd in Division 2.
The juniors raced well and finished second overall. They were best represented on the day by TJ Burke and Ian Shanahan.
The Intermediate team, despite a brave effort, finished 5th on the
day and 4th overall on a count back.
Finally the seniors, again missing some key members, ran well. The team finished second on the day, but this was enough to deliver the senior title for the 8th time in 9 years. Best on the day for seniors were Oran O’Flaherty and Bobby Crowley.
Attention now turns to getting ready for the South Leinster championships in late January.
Well done to Canice Whearty, who qualified for all Ireland combined events under 17 and finishing 9th overall.
