Knockbeg Seniors bowed out of the league following the concession of five goals. Despite the game being very even, it was St. Peter’s efficiency in front of goals that would prove the difference.
Knockbeg had the benefit of the elements in the first half but failed to capitalise on early supremacy. Their failure to finish off good goal opportunities along with three missed frees in the opeing quarter were difficult to overcome. This was to prove all the more difficult when St. Peter’s netted for the second time after 18 minutes. However, Knockbeg responded well with an excellently-worked team goal of their own, as Conor Crowley fisted the ball to the net after a good assist from Jack Lawlor. Just as Knockbeg were gaining some momentum they conceded a poor goal from a St. Peter’s effort for a point that dropped short as their corner forward reacted quickest by fisting it to net. Tom Glynn responded with an excellent point from play to leave the half-time score 3-2 to 1-3.
Unfortunately for Knockbeg, they continued the trend of conceding a goal approximately every ten minutes in the second half. Every time they seemed to gain a foot-hold in the game they were caught out at the back with some excellent forward play from a strong St. Peter’s side. This was again the case after Michael Doran had netted with ten minutes left either side of a David Cox and Johnny Byrne point to leave five points in it with eight minutes left. As Knockbeg pressed on in search of another goal they were caught with an excellent counter attack from St. Peter's. The Wexford school also clipped over the last few points of the game to advance to a league final.
For Knockbeg it's back to preparations for the championship which is due on Friday 2nd  December. Knockbeg have a bye in the 1st round which isn’t very advantageous as a competitive fixture would prove to be more of a benefit if they are to progress in the championship. In order to progress though, they will have to stop the concession of goals while making the most of their opportunities at the other end also.
