Knockbeg put in a disjointed performance away to Patrician Newbridge in Round 2 of the South Leinster A League. Whilst the scoreline did not reflect the game as a whole, Newbridge were the more cohesive side.
Knockbeg played against the wind in the first half and were still very much in the game as it ended 7 ponis to 3, with our scores coming from Michael Doran, Oran Bergin and David Cox. With Bergin excelling in midfield, Knockbeg started the 2nd half on top and closed the gap to 2 points but were left to rue a number of missed opportunities whilst dominant. Alas, Newbridge were to hit Knockbeg with two goals in three minutes on the counter attack. This bit of breathing space allowed Newbridge to open up Knockbeg in the last quarter as the lads tried in vain to salvage something from the game.
The game did serve Knockbeg well and hopefully it will prove to be a learning experience for all. Next up is Ard Scoil, Athy, in the final group game where victory is necessary to keep hopes of a semifinal berth alive.
