Round 1 vs Clane, in Graiguecullen, on Friday 8th Sept.
Knockbeg College opened their season with a 4-8 to 1-9 victory over Clane CS. With the early season start both teams got a chance to look at their panel in depth, with a number of members still tied up with club action.
The opening half was relatively even with Knockbeg playing into the wind. Frees from Oran Bergin had nudged Knockbeg ahead before a Conor Crowley goal, the first of his hat trick, left Knockbeg leading 1-5 to 0-2 at the break.
Knockbeg were to extend their lead in the 3rd quarter with further goals from Crowley and David Cox. Clane responded with 1-2 in the final 10 minutes, but Knockbeg's victory was never in doubt with excellent displays from Cialann Mulhall and Shane Bolger at the back, the industrious Adam Duggan and the aforementioned Bergin and Crowley. Next up for Knockbeg in the league is Ard Scoil, Athy.
