In November, two of our fifth year students, Jim Nolan and Ryan Carbery, jetted off to the Côte d’Azur to present their project to an international tourism conference, accompanied by Ms. Dillon.
The trip came after winning a national research award competition run by the Global Travel & Tourism Partnership (GTTP). The Global Travel and Tourism Partnership is a philanthropic industry initiative to foster future talent and tackle the global skills shortage. The GTTP educates secondary school students about careers in Travel and Tourism, at a time when they are making career and education choices. The prize was an all-expenses paid trip to Nice!
The topic of the project was “Sustainable Adventure Tourism” and, at the conference, students from around the world presented their project on this case study. The issue which Jim and Ryan focused on, was “Location and Improvement of Caravan Parks” and their potential influence on the Irish tourism sector.
It was a brilliant opportunity to meet people from all around the world and explore a career in the tourism sector. On the last night, a Gala dinner was held, where the students had a chance to meet influential business people from the tourism industry who sponsor the event.
