Knockbeg senior footballers got off to a winning start in the Leinster A football championship with a good win over Maynooth. Michael Doran fired over 9 points in an impressive display of marksmanship. Knockbeg restricted Maynooth to 2 first half points while scoring 6 themselves. Knockbeg were dominant in the opening half and should have been further ahead as they recorded 6 wides.
Maynooth started the second half brightly scoring 3 points in the opening minutes to reduce the gap to a single point. However points from Doran and Darren Lunney kept the knockbeg lads ahead. This lead was then extended when subsitute Johnny Byrne struck the ball to the back of the net.
Final Score Knockbeg 1 – 14 Maynooth 0-7.
