Our Junior Footballers played Good Counsel of New Ross in the 2nd round of the Championship last week in Graiguecullen. We got off to a good start with early points from Conor Brennan, Michael Doran, Conor Nolan, and Stephen McDonnell. However, the Wexford school dominated the last ten minutes of the opening half, and led by 8 points to 7 at half time.
Again Knockbeg started quickly, with Stephen McDonnell’s shot blazing over the bar straight after the restart. Unfortunately, Good Counsel raised two green flags and tagged on a few points to stretch their lead. In through Knockbeg fashion, our footballers fought until the final whistle, and were rewarded with scoring the last three points of the game through Conor Nolan and Cailim Lafford.
Cialann Mulhall, Cailim Lafford and Niall Brennan were rock solid in defence, while Killian Horgan and Martin Moloney worked tirelessly in midfield. Michael Doran played a captain’s part at centre forward, and Conor Nolan was again a constant threat up front. Knockbeg now play St. Peter's of Wexford in the final round of the Junior Football Championship at home.
