Knockbeg successfully regained the Carlow ’A’ Schools title having not competed in the competition last year. This was a wonderful achievement considering it was the Knockbeg Senior development squad (without the services of 19 first team members) who secured this hard fought victory after extra time.
The game was tight throughout as it was level at 1-2 to 0-5 at half time after a great goal from Fionn Maher had put Knockbeg in the driving seat earlier on. However the Pres dominated proceedings early in the secon half and built a 4 point lead of 1-7 to 1 – 3. Knockbeg drew on their strong bench as ADAM Feeney, Tom Glynn, Mark McDermot, Johnny Byrne and Michael Doran helped turn the tide. It took points from Glynn and a couple of ice cool frees from Doran to take the game into extra time.
Doran continued his exploits in extra time with a couple of great points from play as well as one from Sam Dunne as Knockbeg maintained control. The Carlow league has served the Senior panel well as the y continue to prepare for the first round of the Leinster Championship against Maynooth College next week.
