Karate World Championship
The International Karate Union will be holding this year’s World Championships in Maribor, Slovenia from 5th to 8th November. Two students from Knockbeg have been selected as part of the Karate Ireland National Team, Cillian Morrissey will compete in the World Karate Games for Children while Oisín Chelmiah will compete in the World Karate Championships for Cadets and Children, in the Kumite (fighting) and Kata (technical) events. The boys had to go through qualifying events earlier this year to be selected as part of the team and have been attending extra weekend training sessions with the rest of the squad since then. Overall there were 34 selected for the team ranging from 7 years to veterans. Good Luck to both boys.
